2007 Baby Boomers are 61 years young.

FACTS:

75 million baby boomers are now between the ages of 43 and 61.

Year 2007 marks the first wave of the baby boomers turning 61.

U.S is now entering the early "bottom curve" retirement of the baby boomers.

By year 2030, U.S will have turned a new leaf with 75,000,000 new prosperous retirees.

EARLY RETIREMENT (age 60)
If all the baby boomers started to retire at age 60 there would be approximately 13 million baby boomers by year 2009.

Now let's take a look at the normal retirement age.

NORMAL RETIREMENT (age 65)
By year 2014, approximately 13 million baby boomers will retire at age 65.
By year 2030, a total of approximately 75 million baby boomers will have retired at age 65.

Let's put things in perspective, currently there are 301 million people in the US. Now imagine 75 million of those people all retiring by 2030. That's more than 20% of the total population.

In the U.S, there are 6 states which are going to prosper from this shift/migration; Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, California, and Florida. Of course there will be other countries besides the U.S; there will be other cities throughout the U.S; some retirees might decide not to move at all; and some might decide to buy a vacation home further up north. There are of course a lot of variables to take in consideration; extended family, loved ones, partner's interest, environmental factors, health issues, and countless others. But one thing is for certain, the US and the world are going to feel the impressions.

Real estate and tourism are going to have great many years (decades) of success. Real estate market will show up in 2030 as having record sales breaking years; new construction, renovations, redevelopments, fixer uppers, new homes. Anything to do with tourism will also do great; retail shops, hotels, beauty shops, bar and restaurant, casinos, car rentals, and countless others.

Well, another fact I like to leave you with is U.S has never experienced a shift similar to this. I am very optimistic, so it will be interesting to see how things develop in the early stages which are happening right now.
