Is anyone on this site? Well if you are can you please answer this question.
I just moved to FL from Alabama with my family of four and bought 4.5 acres with cash in desoto county. I now have the deed in hand. I plan to build my own home from scratch with my own money and NO BANKS. My son and I are capable of building a 5-4 5,000 sqr foot two story home. Why do we still need building permits, etc?
Thank You in advance for your response!
Steve

Unfortunately a building permit and in impact fee are necessary in Desoto County. You will also need construction drawings certified by a Florida-licensed architect or structural engineer. You will need to meet the Florida Building Code requirements for wind-resistance, which depending on where you are in Desoto County could be 110, 120 or 130 MPH. Desoto County Health Dept. engineers your septic system for a modest fee. Our firm would be pleased to complete the building drawings for a fee of about $6500.00.
